At the end of the protectorate in the north of Morocco, the Spanish press has contributed to the construction of a new common “Hispano-Moroccanµ identity. In this article, several newspapers and publications of the late 1950s are analyzed. This is particularly the case of the newspaper Diario de Ã?frica among other publications which make it possible today to rethink the important role of the press and how Morocco’s independence has been approached by certain newspapers through graphic images. The goal of the protectorate was to create a new social imaginary. In addition, the publications analyzed in this article portray the principal aspects of the civil society of that era and highlight the political and cultural exchanges in all directions between Moroccans and the Spanish.
