Science is descriptive, not prescriptive; it allows acquiring knowledge without imposing solutions or recipes. Bowlby’s theory is useful for studying the relationships between attachment, childcare and development, but it cannot be the only psychological reference in forensic practice. The notion of «best interests of the child» is discussed to illustrate that legal categories do not coincide with psychological constructs
