In recent years, several EU regulatory interventions have helped to redesign the rules on the re-use of public sectorinformation. However, exceptions have been made towards cultural institutions (libraries, museums and archives), which have then been transposed into domestic legislation making the data re-use regulation quite heterogeneous in this field. The article reveals that the rules on cultural heritage images reproduction are different from the ones provided for catalographic databases in the same area. In this respect, the strategy and open access regime adopted by the Central Institute for the Catalogue and Documentation for the Cultural Heritage General Catalogue have been taken as an example of compliance with the needs of cultural heritage digital accessibility and a successful public-private information pooling.
