The history of biblical interpretation records multiple tensions and advancesin biblical scholarship besides the theological use of the Bible. This paperpresents the model of four cultures proposed by John W. O’Malley, in particularthe prophetic, academic, humanistic and artistic cultures, and appliesthem to the history of biblical interpretations. The paper also attempts tounderstand why there have been so many different approaches in theologyand biblical studies.
