The Holocaust literature transforms many narrative categories in an attemptto find forms capable of conveying the historical experience of extermination.As an alternative to the impossible mimetic reproduction of reality, many authorsresort to the imaginary and its rhetorical and narrative devices to reconstructthe concentrationary experience. The essay aims to trace the formsand functions of phantasmagoria in some texts by Charlotte Delbo where thetransfiguration of reality makes the process of remembrance possible and, atthe same time, the recomposition of the subject.
