The emergence of the practices and rhetoric of neoliberal capitalism, of the democratic order and of sustainable development, at the base of the so-called African renaissance that crosses different parts of the continent, shows a powerful and contradictory convergence with the revival of traditional powers and with the rise of new dimensions of the occult and of the religious sense. The article focuses on the articulated relationship between development and heritage, and on the role played by the local chiefs starting from the case of the Fort Apollonia Museum in South-Western Ghana.
