This article regards the development model of the Foggia urban area. In particular, through the analysis of the rationalist planning actions realized during the Fascist period in Italy, the aim is to compare the project of urbanization of Foggia’s countryside and the new trends of agrarian urbanism. In this view, the article focuses on the six rural townships located in the urban area of Foggia. They are real rural villages where, since they were founded, citizens experience an urban condition quite different from the city of Foggia. A sort of ‘clashing’ condition, which essentially produces a different organizational model of public space. Through this comparison, the aim is to reflect about the relationship among public space, common identity and models of socialization. Despite the many problems generated by marginalization and underdevelopment, the inhabitants of these townships are able to produce a model of coexistence reproducing the features of lifestyle politics, even with peculiarities typical of ‘original communities’.
