106The two gold lamellae from Pelinna (OF 485-486 F) have been interpreted as containing a promise of immortality for the initiated, which also involves a perpetual enjoyment of wine in the context of recurring symposia of the blessed ones, but an unprejudiced look at the Orphic evidence shows that even if wine was a founding element of many initiatory rites, it was to be tasted again, in the form of libation, only at the time of death. For the rest, like flesh and beans, it was strictly forbidden.
