The chapters 18 to 26 of the second book of Seneca’s De ira mark the beginning of the practical section of the work, whose purpose is to teach how to overcame the passion of anger. It consists of a prophylactic part, aiming to avoid anger altogether, as well as of a therapeutical part, aiming to put anger under control. In this section of the treatise the main influence may be recognized in Posidonius’ Middle Stoicism, incorporating Platonic and Aristotelian ideas in the general framework of a Stoic approach.
