Giovanni Bollea, regarded as the “father” of Italian pediatric neuropsychiatry, died in Rome in February of 2011. Taking as its point of departure his first work in this field, published in 1947 and transcribed here, this article attempts to shed light on the context in which it arose, indicating noteworthy points and proposing some hypotheses for further research.
