Oreste Maggio (1875-1937) was a Palermo physician active in the early 20th century, who devised a technique for the permanent preservation of anatomical specimens (‘petrification’). However, much of his work remains unknown. This short paper provides original biographical information on this scientist, obtained through research of the relevant archives and hitherto unpublished documents.
