Objective. The paper deals with the reflection that is gaining strength about the role of managerial sciences within museum institutions, deepening those aspects of management who appear peculiar. Methodology. On desk analysis on theoretical contributions to the study of cultural heritage management in systemic perspective, with particular attention to the Viable System Approach. On field analysis with the methodology of case studies, useful to verify the analysis model proposed. Results and managerial implications. The paper contributes to studies on museum systems and provides indications of policy to the public decision makers in cultural sector in order to design and development of a management model that responds to systemic perspective.
