Framing is key concept of sociology and psychology, and is also used in media studies, but research on framing is characterized by theoretical vagueness. In this paper some characterizations of the concept of frame developed in the sociological field of political communication will be systematized. The concept of frame fits into the theoretical framework of the theory of agenda setting, but there are different perspectives and theoretical approaches to framing: two meanings of frames will be isolated.
