The Gallery of the Accademia di SanLuca houses a painting representingSamson drinking from the Jawbone ofan Ass, submitted by the romanpainter Do-menico Pellegrini at thecompetition «Anonimo Mecenate»announced in 1819 by the Accademiadi San Luca. The analysis of thepainting allowed the identificationof the personality of a painter so farunknown to the scholars, bearingthe same name and younger than thecelebrated Do-menico Pellegrini ofGalliera Veneta, who bequeathed tothe Academy a large number ofpaintings. The homonymy and thecontiguity in time and place of theirproduction generated in some casescontamination of data and works.The attempt to reconstruct the profileof the young Pellegrini has beenalso an opportunity to focus on somedetails concerning the homonymVenetian painter.
