The purpose of this study was twofold: to describe the type of contents of adults' self-concept and to compare males and females, and Northerns and Southerns, in relation to some of these contents. We used the "Twenty Statements Test" (TST) which allows to collect the spontaneous self-conceptions. The TST was administered to 1009 subjects, with an average age of 32 years. The results showed that the self-concept is a multifaced entity, even if personality characteristics do prevail. As far as the factor sex is concerned, our expectation was supported about a stronger communion-interdependence self-schema in women than in men, and viceversa for the separate-independent self-schema. Our expectation about a prevailing collectivist self-concept in the Southerns and an individualistic one in the Northers was not confirmed.
