The paper provides the edition, with a linguistic commentary, of a documentthat dates back approximately to 1275. It was written in Chioggiaby a local administrator of a monastery and it can be useful to improveour knowledge about the medieval vernacular of that town. The moderndialect of Chioggia shows Venetian and Paduan features that could be interpretedin two ways: either the result of its Venetianization, or the effectof the influence of the mainland dialects on an early Venetian variety. Thewitness of this text seems to enhance the hypothesis of an early resemblancebetween the vernaculars of Chioggia and Venice.
