In order to recollect the philosophical work of Nicola Abbagnano hundred years after his birth, a meeting of scholars took place in Turin from the 4th to the 6th of October 2001. The author of this paper offers a survey of the main topics treated during the conference and discusses the most interesting features of Abbagnano's thought, particularly in the period after the Second World War. Some aspects of Abbagnano's philosophy are also stressed, such as the conception of categories, which seems to be indebted to the Kantian heritage, although Abbagnano does not engage himself in a sophisticated theory of categorial frameworks. According to the author, this problematic side of Abbagnano's philosophy may also justify the decline of his theoretical project (the so called "New Enlightenment") since the sixties.
