Electric cars are not new. They were first used at the start of the last century, but they were soon replaced by gasoline-powered cars, which were produced shortly thereafter and sold all over the world. In the last three years low-cost electric city cars have caught on in the Asian markets. Electric city cars are inexpensive and emission-free. Ten million electric cars have already been sold in Asia: not many compared with the size of the market. However, this will encourage automakers to reduce their price further, improve their performance and increase their production. If this happens, electric cars from the East will eventually make their entrance in the West.
