The author examines the relations existing between environmental protection and other interests constitutionally recognized, such as ownership and the freedom of economic enterprise. Through an analysis of the jurisprudence of the Constitutional court, aimed at balancing conflicting values as guaranteed by the Constitution, the necessity to receive, at a normative level, the evolution of the production techniques in order to assure a major compatibility of the requirements of the economic development with the ones of environmental protection, is evident
