141ON THE TRAIL OF THE SIREN: BLACK TOURISM IN NAPLES. - This study aims to analyse a particular type of tourism that is part of the phenomenon of so-called macabre tourism. The discussion is focused on the city of Naples, considered a crossroads of cultures and religious traditions, halfway between paganism and Christianity. In the first part the phenomenon of esoteric tourism is defined, starting from the scientific and sociological point of view and then dealing with the esoteric origins that led to the foundation of the Neapolitan city, based on archaeological and astronomical studies. Some of the most visited places in the city, at the centre of mysterious energies and cults linked to stories of Initiates and Alchemists, are then examined. Finally, the last part highlights the importance of the cult of Death in Naples and discusses how these places of memory, abandoned for a long time, have become the object of growing interest by what can be termed “esotourists”, that is, travellers intrigued by esoteric experiences.
