The First World War brought about a civil mobilization to support the war effort in new and original forms. How was this process experienced in Turin, an important industrial and strategic centre for war purposes? This essay presents a case study of the “home frontµ, which, on the one hand, analyses the dynamics of the local ruling classes engaged on the economic, welfare and propaganda levels and, on the other hand, identifies the mobilization as an opportunity to experiment and make innovation in various fields of urban society.
