The essay examines the main characteristics of the Ombudsman in some post-conflict and in transition Sub-Saharan African societies. The purpose is to identify the types of African Ombudsmen in the global context of the Ombudsman institutions, also in view of the comparison of the African conceptions of human/fundamental rights, good governace and democracy with that of the Western legal tradition.
