The aim of the present paper was the study of the linkage, if any, between human capital and working time reductions; for the proposed aim, by modifying a theoretical model due to Acemoglu (1994, 1996), where a labour market with a costly search activity and a matching technology function give room for social increasing returns, we will show that a worksharing policy has a positive impact on workers’ human capital, and consequently on the average educational level of the considered economy; the reverse is obviously true in the sense that if employees decide to invest more in human capital in order to increase their educational level and improve their skills, the entrepreneurs will be induced to reduce the working time for their employees.
