427This a tentative attempt at working out a new theme from today’s politics: the growing importance of unreasonable attitudes - from the no vax attitudes to the QAnon narratives and the chemtrail theory. Conspirational thinking is their common feature. They have always existed, but acquired political relevance only since digital communication has made their worldwide spreading in a person-to-person exchange possible. This adds to the existing worries about liberal democracy, which cannot survive without a basic reasonableness of the citizens – a precondition of any rationality, as Rawls made clear. Should unreasonableness gain weight in tomorrow’s politics, one consequence would be that government "by" the people cannot be credited to be by default government "for" the people.
