The article critically reconstructs the debate and the current open issues on the topic of abortion, starting from the discussion of Laura Conti’s book, recently republished, "Il tormento e lo scudo". In particular, the authors focus – through Conti – on the issues related to the Italian law 194/78, discussing its (bio)ethical and theoretical implications from a historical and legal perspective, in light of the most recent global threats of restriction or internal erosion of the right to abortion.
