This special issue of "Scuola Democratica" addresses the scientific, cultural, and political urgency of rethinking educational processes in a complex society. Its goal is to redefine their boundaries and critically examine the role of democratic participation within the public space of education. The articles explore the theme of education as 'commons' from diverse theoretical perspectives and research approaches, highlighting how the concept of 'educational commons' is not a unified paradigm but rather a plural and diversified field where various actors offer different responses to the challenges posed by neoliberal, atomising, and hyper-competitive logics.
