The article focuses on the effects of technological change on care and assistance work. In particular, it discusses the main results of a study on a company that develops new digital technologies within the care sector. Drawing on the analysis of the case study, the contribution deepens the effects of technology on workers and on work organizational models. In this regard, two main issues are addressed: the relation between new technologies and new professional skills; the impact of technologies on the organization of care work. The study suggests that the development of innovative professional profiles needs to be accompanied by adequate models of work organization and governed by appropriate policy choices.
