The article presents a profile of Gianni Vattimo, one of the most influential and quoted Italian philosophers of the second half of the 20th century. It reconstructs the years of philosophical training that went hand in hand with political activity, up to the most significant results from a philosophical point of view. Among the most important elements are the insistence on the Nietzsche-Heidegger nexus, one of the main theses of the so-called «continental philosophy », and the troubled relationship with the Catholic faith.
