122Beck tried to give us the means to think about global risks by proposing cosmopolitan sociology. However, Fukushima’s example offers another line of thought: could what we call a catastrophe be prevented? No, and even in its technical aspect, the nuclear accident could not be prevented entirely. The article examines the concepts used to counter these risks: I will briefly discuss some of them – Ulrich Beck’s notion of cosmopolitan vision and that of prevention/adaptation in the human security approach, and then, based on the work on Fukushima, I will describe how the care approach – attention to the other but also attention to the world – can allow us to go beyond these dichotomies, while relying on the ordinariness of life, and to ensure protection in times of so-called «global risks».
