The essay compares the concepts of machination (Heidegger) and apparatus (Foucault/ Deleuze and Agamben) to underline their theoretical affinities and differences. The differences derive not only from the distinct philosophical projects of the authors, but also from how each one conceives human «freedom» in the contemporary world. Consequently, their approaches regarding the modern concept of the subject will also be different. The text ends, thus, with a reflection on the apparatus of the subject in current times, briefly pointing to its possibilities of destitution
