Vittoria Franco, Sergio Filippo Magni and Stefano Petrucciani discuss the recently published collection of essays on Marx written by Cesare Luporini between 1976 and 1984, Libertà e strutture. Scritti su Marx (1964-1984). Franco focuses on two essays: the unpublished and incomplete Introduction (1980) to an edition of collected papers on Marxism and The Roots of moral Life, considering them very important in the intellectual life of the Author. Magni tries to highlight the relevance of Luporini’s critique to Marxist historicism, based on the interaction between historical materialism and natural materialism, and the importance of his critical reflection on Marxism and Marxist politics. Petrucciani investigates the theorist who sees with lucidity the aporias of Marxian politics, its insufficiency, but does not decide to make a more radical innovative leap; he goes so far as to pose the most radical questions, but before them he stops and goes back.
