People with Body Integrity Dysphoria (BID) harbor a long-standing desire to acquire a particular physical disability, including limbs amputation, paralysis, or sensory deprivation. Nowadays, the medical community is not authorized to perform the interventions required by people with BID. Many of these individuals resort to self-mutilation or attempting to damage the body part, «forcing» medical intervention to achieve the desired body configuration. This work focuses on the psychological suffering that pervades the existence of BID sufferers. Philosophy can be purposeful in exploring the bodily dysphoria that characterizes these modes of existence. Indeed, although pain is a deterrent to attempts at self-damage, it is interesting to dwell on the mind-body tension experienced in BID, sometimes being so unbearable that it leads these people to face physical pain to achieve their subjectively felt corporeality
