At the beginning of the twentieth century, the risks of war multiplied in the world, as a result of the imperialist and colonialist policies pursued by the Western Great Powers. On the subject of the attitude of scientists towards the problem of war, the Author recalls two important and controversial protagonists of European culture, Cesare Lombroso and Sigmund Freud, different in many respects but both formed in the last phase of positivism
