To be both plausible and effective, adaptation strategies need to meet certain conditions. We will focus on the three main ones: knowledge and stability of the environment, mitigation outcomes, and feasibility of hybrid mitigation strategies. Adaptation requires stability. Another condition, which is significantly related to the former, concerns mitigation outcomes. While mitigation aims to curb excess greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation seeks to respond to unavoidable impacts, minimizing the negative effects and damages of climate change on social ecosystems, seizing new opportunities and building complementary strategies toward mitigation. Adaptation is largely linked to the outcomes of mitigation, which conditions its orientation. Adaptation cannot be an umbrella concept. It is a project that must be experimented when conditions are below the critical thresholds
