The COVID-19 pandemic has confronted humanity with the ontological problems of being, and it can thus be investigated only from a «tragic» perspective. The pandemic transforms our symbolic universes by imposing itself as a «total social fact» in its apocalyptic essence. Only by going beyond the eternal present time in which we are immersed, and by acknowledging our historicity, and therefore the possibility of death, can we approach our vulnerability between the time of being and the fear of being within time.
