In this paper I present the ideas and scientific topics from which Orazio Miglino developed his own original research program on the attempt to capture the complexity of reality through simulation models and technological artifacts, such as robots. Orazio conceived them not only as research tools, but also as real educational laboratories that can be used with the aim of empirically promoting peculiar operational interactions during learning.
