The paper reviews the literature published by Alss in the last forty years covering social policies aimed at the female population and specific cases of social policies for non self sufficient elderly people and children. It highlights how a «gendered» approach can constitute a sort of «prism» to articulate the analysis of the impact that the presence/absence of social policies concretely has on the individuals, both as possible end-users and as professionals.
