288The essay refutes the current theory of the inevitability of fascism seizing the precise responsibilities of King Vittorio Emanuele III. The thesis of the rejection of the state's signature siege by the king for fear that behind the March on Rome was concealed an attempt to change dynastic orchestrated jointly by Mussolini and Emanuele Filiberto of Aosta here compelling new documentary evidence. It emerges finally, clearly, that the liberal ruling class of the time there was not only the wait strategy and arbitration of Giovanni Giolitti, but was potentially available a liberal democratic option capable of conveying the political system from the Italian faded forms of oligarchic liberalism to the first rudimentary practice of representative democracy.
