Starting from a vision of the city based on the principles of the Local project by Alberto Magnaghi, the paper describes a project, centred on the disused “Ospedale degli infermi” area in Biella, which passes through the “necessary violence” of the partial demolition of its Mono-bloc to point directly to urban re-birth: the redesign of the spaces resulting from the demolition, supporting the establishment of personal and collective relationships of care and self-management of urban and periurban territories, seems able, in the sign of a new secular sacredness, to ward off the “mort de la ville” which today, on the contrary, appears as an inexorable destiny for cities abandoned by History and by their residents’ stories.
