The paper tells the case of active involvement of the inhabitants in the care of the territory. The place where it happened is the small town of Jesi, in the center of Italy. In 1997, Raimondo Cardinali, who was a municipal manager, started the project in which citizens have been involved in cleaning the banks of the river Esino and in return had the wood of the felled trees. He did it to solve the problem of maintenance of the riverbed. This has been a convenience both for the municipality, which has reduced the expenses of the river maintenance, and for citizens, who could have wood to be used for private purposes as reimbursement for work and avoid the bureaucracy resulting from the grant provincial, and for the area, since it has been used the method of selective cutting of trees: they were picked only those that may constitute a danger in case of flood.
