The present contribution analyzes the production of renewable energies in Europe and in Italy, concentrating on the biogas energy production. Than it offers a picture of the Italian energy market and the green certificates market. Considering the last legislative measures introduced in Italy and the investment incentives proposed, the paper analyzes the possible costs and benefits of biogas energy production, in order to assess farms profit margins and their opportunity to join a developing market.
