The Sardinian (Italy) sheep dairy industry is going through a prolonged crisis, both structural and cyclical. In order to identify its causes, a close examination has been carried out, highlighting the most important evolutionary paths until nowadays. The article is about the main features of the market and production chains. Besides, it emphasises land tenure issues, pointing out the moderate spread of collective pasture. To improve the agriculture production context, the article proposes to reconsider the commons rights (civil uses) still existing on the land. Promoting these specific zones in a common perspective of sustainable development, could reveal itself an important device for rationalizing the production process.
