312Unlike what has happened in other countries, where gender and women's studies gained a foothold in the Seventies, there is little that has been done in these areas in Italy. Italian legal philosophy is no exception, despite the fact that the gender approach is particularly relevant both to some classic issues in this discipline, first among them that of equality, and to the cross-disciplinary areas that legal philosophers have increasingly been taking an interest in, such as bioethics, multiculturalism, and law and literature. The approach in Italy stretches back to the Nineties, with significant theoretical contributions. More recently, some scholars have focused on themes such as the potentialities of the ethics of care in bioethics and the tensions between feminism and multiculturalism.
