Investigated the relationship between need for cognitive closure (nfc) and creativity. We hypothesized more creativity with less need for closure. We conducted two experiments using experimental tasks conceived by Finke and Slayton (1988) on the creative capacity of the mental images. Results confirmed our hypothesis showing an increase of the creativity with the diminishing of the dispositional nfc of the subjects. On the basis of our results, it seems to us that the action of the nfc overcome the reference to social contents to affect the overall organization of our believe and process system, inducing a cognitive preference toward the closeness or the openness.
