Language, as one of the privileged domain in which socio-psychological processes are displayed, is an object of study investigated by social psychologists for a long time. Recently, the Linguistic Category Model has contributed to increase a great of interest in this topic. To present the empirical lines of research produced by this model, the most relevant contributions on language pertaining to the socio-psychological literature are reviewed, ordering them on the basis of the different underlying perspectives, the cognition of social psychology and the social psychology of cognition, the study of the semantic content of the message and of the structure conveying this content. Hence, an organisational framework of the theories and studies considered is proposed and the implications of this organisation are discussed from the point of view of a possible integration.
