The author refutes the thesis advocated by G. De Crescenzo, which asserts the progressive approaching of Nicola Abbagnano to the religious faith, and in particular to the Catholic Church. Abbagnano's interest in religion dates back to the existentialistic phase of his thought, where philosophy and religion were conceived as two different, though not opposite, attitudes of men - the former based on research, the latter on belief. Abbagano did not change this view in his writings of the seventies and eighties, and never intended to propose a religious philosophy, less than ever a philosophy inspired to the Catholic principles.
