Brazil is a modern agro-industrial power and a great food exporter. Its success is recent and related to wise investments in scientifi c research, that allowed to adapt soil and cultures to tropical climate. Some environmental characteristics are similar to those in Sub-Saharan Africa, where the Green Revolution has not spread so far. Political and economic reasons explain the interest of Brazil in starting a program of co-operation and technology transfer in agriculture in Africa, that former President Luiz Inácio da Silva called «generosity diplomacy».
