The authors comment the discussion of Stefano Molina, Alessandro Rosina and Maria Letizia Tanturri - which appeared in issue no. 2/2009 of «Polis» - on their book "La rivoluzione nella culla". The authors reiterate their argument that a new equilibrium in the Italian population is arising as a consequence of a real demographic revolution and homeostatic reactions. The demographic revolution is indeed a threat, as the discussants point out, but might become an opportunity, especially for the most economically and socially advanced areas of Central and Northern Italy. The authors therefore reject the apparently mainstream view based on demographic decline that continues to influence research and scenario development.
