The essay introduces the Italian translation of Kelsen's Causality and Retribution, showing its relevance in the comprehension of the figure and thought of an author widely studied for his juridical works but neglected in his significant works on social epistemology. The essay also highlights how Kelsenian researches on the birth of the logical forms of normative thought, from primitive societies to pre-socratic philosophy of nature, mainly devoted to the relationship between causality and justice, are of great interest for political philosophy.
