Several research methods text-books have been recently published by Italian scholars, accompanying the growing interest of Italian political science in carryingout original empirical research and the recent greater availability of public opinion data on Italy. The article reviews the text-books in the light of the debate between quantitative and qualitative approaches to social science research, discussinghow this debate is framed in the text-books and how research methods are presented to students.
